Riley and I took us a good nap yesterday. It's very unusual for Riley to want to lay on the couch with either me or my wife but for whatever reason, he decided it was a good idea. Here's a picture of us both sleeping, thanks to my wife.
I admit: I've done a miserable job in keeping content current on this blog. Blame it on my new job. It's the only excuse I have!
Riley is doing well. He's seven months old and weighs around 14 or 15 pounds. He has some new "games" that we find pretty funny.
Game 1: Grab something he's not supposed to have (wash cloth, towel, receipt, paper towel, yarn, etc.) and dart behind our couch where we can't reach him easily. He seems to favor this game quite a bit!
Game 2: We call this game "playing football" because he tends to take his front paws and with a sweeping motion, throw a blanket or his leash behind him. I got a little bit of video of him doing that on my iPhone. Enjoy!
Last night Tony our dog trainer came to our house for Riley's second week of training. It went really well despite Riley being so head strong. By the end of the session Riley was sitting immediately on command. No treats were given.
I think this one on one training is going to help Riley be a great dog! After all, that is the point!
Riley now has his own trainer. Based on a recommendation from The Barkery, we asked Tony Littral of the K-9 Character School to come out and do an evaluation on Riley. He does one-on-one in-home dog training. He has over thirty years experience in dog training and it shows. We were really impressed with how Riley responded to him after just a few minutes. So, Riley will get a visit from Tony each week for the next 5 or 6 weeks. Of course, not only does Riley have a lot to learn, so do his owners!
Riley went to the groomer today. He looks quite different! I know he can certainly see better. He got his ears all cleaned out, nails trimmed, bathed and a hair cut. What more can a puppy ask for?
At this moment, he's passed out on the couch. He's pretty tired from his big day. I'm sure after a short nap, he'll be ready to go again!
Riley has been busy . . . making movies. Here's his most recent one on YouTube. We've never seen a dog who loves to play with his food like Riley does. He lays on his back; he throws it up in the air. Very entertaining. We caught a little bit of his neurosis on camera this morning.
Oh . . . and he gets to go to the groomer on Tuesday! We can't wait to get his LONG hair cut. He'll look totally different. Check back here on Wednesday to see the new and improved Riley!
Yes, life has been busy and I've not been updating this blog as much as I should. I did get the camera out this morning and took a few photos of Riley before going to work. He's now 8.9 lbs! Take a look!
Riley went back to the vet on Saturday. He now weights 8.9 lbs! He is growing leaps and bounds. When Riley came home with us in early May, he weighed 2.2 lbs. So, he's really growing a lot. Some days it's almost as if you can see him get longer or taller.
Our vet, Dr. Rennecker, bragged on Riley's temperment. We were pleased that he thought Riley was "a nice looking pup." Overall, he's doing great. PIctures to come soon!
I got the camera out tonight for a bit when I first got home and snapped a few photos of Riley. He's really growing. Lots of energy! He was playing with his favorite toy . . . he loves that thing!
Hello blog world! Things have been busy around our household. Riley is growing, growing, growing. When we got him a few weeks ago, he weighed 2.2 lbs. Last week he weighed in at 4.3 lbs. That's a big difference! He's sleeping longer at night but we're still up a couple times of night with him. His bladder just can't hold it until morning. We will be really happy when he can go all night without a bathroom break! It's like having a new baby!
Riley had his photo made this past week. Karen Powell took family photos and Riley did great. We should have some proofs to look at soon. I'll make sure and post a link.
We also decided to try a different feed called Orijen. It comes highly recommended (albeit not cheap). I'll let you know how Riley does on it. He's probably eating better than we are.
